Welcome to the Core77 2012 Design Awards
Recognizing excellence in all areas of design enterprise, the Core77 Design Awards celebrates the richness of the design profession and the brilliance of its practitioners. We’re pleased to present 17 categories of entry in our second year, providing designers, researchers and writers a unique opportunity to communicate the intent, rigor and passion behind their efforts. From client work to self-initiated projects, entrepreneurial to pro-bono engagements, we embrace a diverse range of enterprise: commercial, cultural, social, environmental and edifying.
Both the Professional and Student Winners of each category will receive the C77DA trophy, and all honorees will be published in the Awards Gallery, on Core77 and in the awards publication. The recognition will culminate with our NYC event in the fall, and we hope you’ll be part of the most inclusive and celebratory design awards platform of the digital age.
Progressive Categories
In addition to the usual categories—product, furniture, equipment, etc.—we honor several newer forms of design practice: Service, Social Impact, Educational Initiatives, DIY, and now in 2013, Food and Writing.
Dedicated Student Fields
Core77 has always honored student work and accordingly we’ve created Student sections in 15 of the 17 categories.
Distributed International Juries
Based in 13 cities in 8 countries, 20 expert Jury Captains—assigned to the 17 award categories—will pick local team members who are also experts in their category to join them in the judging process.
Entrant Video Testimonials
Since designers are great at showing and telling, we provide them with the opportunity to share their “real story” (beyond the customary jpegs and text) with the jury through low-tech, honest, 2.5 minute video testimonials.
Live Jury Announcements
During our live broadcast period (July 8–16, 2013), each jury team will announce their results in a live broadcast from their home city in their local time zone.
A Trophy Reinvented
Recognizing design as a team sport, the award serves as a DIY mold for a trophy so that teams can cast facsimiles for their collaborators, clients, staff, family, friends, pets, etc.
